BEA will notify entities potentially affected by the change in 2017:
- BEA notified filers of U.S. direct investment abroad surveys (forms BE-11 and BE-577) in a separate mailing in January 2017. BEA provided U.S. reporters with a listing of their potentially affected private fund foreign affiliates along with instructions on how to inform BEA which of their foreign affiliates meet the criteria.
- BEA notified filers of foreign direct investment in the United States surveys (forms BE-15 and BE-605) as part of the regular survey mailing in March 2017. Affected U.S. private funds can file a BE-15 Claim for Exemption or complete “Part VII Claim for Exemption” of the BE-605 form. These forms are available at www.bea.gov/surveys/fdiusurv.
A U.S. private fund that was acquired or established by a foreign entity on or after 1/1/2017 that meets the private funds exemption criteria and was contacted by BEA can file a BE-13 Claim for Exemption form that will be available from www.bea.gov/surveys/be13.
Decision tools are available to help you determine the reporting requirements of the U.S. investment in a foreign private fund or the foreign investment in a U.S. private fund.
